Ioannis Kardiópoulos was born in 1949 in a suburb of Athens. His youth was financially difficult, and he worked many different jobs to make ends meet. In the 1970s, he met Angeliki Merianou from Corfu, whom he married, thus beginning his first contact with Corfu. Coming to the island from time to time and enchanted by its artistic atmosphere, he decided to engage more in painting. He was a self-taught painter and maintained a gallery in Kallithea, Attica, for seven years. His works mainly depict scenes from Greek mythology, the Old Testament, portraits, and still life. He mainly painted with oil on large canvases. He also engaged in the technique of etching.
He permanently settled in Corfu in 1986 and had a painting workshop in Agios Ioannis until the end of his life. He also decorated shops in many areas of the island.
