The Capodistrias Museum β Centre for Capodistrian Studies is the only museum in Greece dedicated exclusively to the life and legacy of Ioannis A. Capodistrias, the first Governor of modern Greece and a leading European diplomat.
Founded in 1981, the museum is housed at βKoukouritsaβ, the historic Capodistrias family estate in Evropouli, Corfu, which was officially designated as a preserved historical monument in 1995. After a four-year renovation, the museum reopened to the public in 2017 with a fully modernized exhibition.
The permanent exhibition extends throughout the building, presenting authentic objects, artworks, and archival material related to Capodistrias and his family, alongside digital exhibits that enhance the visitor experience.
βKoukouritsaβ, where the museum is located, remained in the Capodistrias family from at least the 18th century until 1979, when Maria Capodistria-Desylla β great-granddaughter of the Governorβs younger brother and the first female mayor in Greece β donated the estate and family heirlooms to three major cultural institutions of Corfu: the Reading Society of Corfu, the Corfu Philharmonic Society, and the Corfu Studies Society.
