Gastouri Philharmonic “Omonoia” traces its origins to the Mutual Aid Association of Gastouri “Omonoia”, founded on March 10, 1898, with Michalis Kontos as its first president. In 1911 the association’s statute was amended to formalize its transformation into a philharmonic band, which had already been operating since around 1906.
The band maintains an extensive classical and modern repertoire dating back to the late 19th century. Among its rare musical pieces is the “Kaiser Imperial Dance”, a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany shortly before World War I.
The band’s uniform is characterized by deep blue and red colors and includes a ceremonial helmet bearing the eight-point imperial star and the emblem of the association, the head of the goddess Athena.
The Gastouri Philharmonic has operated continuously ever since, offering free musical education to young people of Central Corfu. Many of its students have later distinguished themselves in military bands and in the broader professional music field in Greece.
Today, under the presidency of Georgios Peratinos and with Spyros Rallis as conductor, the band continues its long tradition while preserving the rich musical heritage of Corfu.
