The Lakones Philharmonic “Agios Nikolaos” is an active cultural institution of the village of Lakones in Corfu, participating in musical events, parades and activities that promote the island’s long-standing philharmonic tradition.
The Lakones Philharmonic Association (FEL) was founded in 1991 and made its first public appearance in the village of Lakones during the Pentecost procession. Over the years, it gradually took part in all local religious processions and parades, as well as in cultural events in other areas of Corfu.
The philharmonic band took its name from the village church of Saint Nicholas, which donated the building where the band is still based today, hosting lessons and rehearsals. The building was renovated with the support of General Georgios Loukanaris, a benefactor of the Lakones Philharmonic.
In recent years, the band has participated in events organized by the Lakones Cultural Association, including the traditional Varkarola, and regularly presents concerts during Christmas, Easter, and the summer season.
The president of the association is Kostas Michalas, while the educational program is supported by conductor and brass instructor Alexis Artavanis, woodwind instructor Andriano Stanisel, and percussion instructor Giannis Michalas.
