The exhibition “Greece, a Reference Country: Art in Greek National Tourism Organisation Posters (1929–1976)” is presented at the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank in Corfu, organised by the Alpha Bank Art Collection and the National Historical Museum.
The exhibition brings together 46 iconic posters of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), artworks that played a key role in shaping Greece’s international image throughout the 20th century.
The posters originate from three important collections: the Alpha Bank Art Collection, the National Historical Museum, and the private collection of Spyros P. Goutsis.
Through these works, visitors explore how Greece was presented as a living cultural destination and a source of inspiration. Created by leading Greek artists and photographers, the posters reflect both the evolution of tourism and the formation of a distinct visual identity that established Greece on the global cultural map.
Featured artists include: Yiannis Tsarouchis, Yiannis Moralis, Panagiotis Tetsis, Spyros Vasileiou, Periklis Byzantios, Louiza Montesantou and Nelly’s.
