The central exhibition of the 19th Audiovisual Arts Festival, titled “Material Portraits”, presents the work of distinguished artist and photographer Christina Dimitriadis at the Municipal Art Gallery of Corfu.
The exhibition runs from May 7 to June 10, 2026 (Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00–16:00), at the Art Hall “Thanos Christou”.
It features works from three photographic series:
• Island Hoping (2015–2018)
• Horizon Wanderers (2021–2023)
• J’ai perdu mon Eurydice (2021–2025)
A common thread across these works is the exploration of material temporalities, linking the deep geological time of the earth with human activity. Dimitriadis creates “portraits of matter” by photographing rocky islets, quarries and constructed vessels.
In Island Hoping, barren Aegean islets emerge as resilient geological bodies with geopolitical significance.
In Horizon Wanderers, ships before and after their construction symbolize both exploration and human dominance over nature.
In J’ai perdu mon Eurydice, ancient quarries and theaters reveal the journeys of marble, connecting materiality with cultural memory and resource exploitation.
The artist’s work addresses complex social, political and historical dimensions, approaching matter as a carrier of memory and transformation.
The exhibition is accessible to visually impaired visitors through audio descriptions.
