The Ionian University has published the bilingual catalogue of the exhibition titled “…about the desired university – The Ionian Academy and Lord Guilford”, as part of the anniversary events marking 200 years since the founding of the Ionian Academy (1824).
The publication is also linked to the celebration of 40 years since the establishment of the Ionian University (1984), highlighting the historical continuity of higher education in Corfu.
The Exhibition
The exhibition was organized by the Ionian University, in collaboration with the Corfu Reading Society, and was hosted at the Municipal Art Gallery of Central Corfu from December 2024 to December 2025.

Rector’s Statement
As noted by the Rector of the Ionian University, Professor Andreas Floros:
“The exhibition not only achieved its anniversary goal, but through its successive extensions it allowed a large number of visitors to explore, in depth and with scientific documentation, the historical course of the Ionian Academy. The exhibition now continues to live on through its bilingual catalogue.”
The publication of the catalogue ensures that the legacy of the exhibition remains accessible, serving as a valuable reference point for the history of education and intellectual life in the Ionian Islands.
