The Society for Corfiot Studies was founded in 1952 with the aim of researching the history, folklore and cultural heritage of Corfu and the Ionian Islands, contributing significantly to the intellectual and cultural life of the region.

Its founders included notable intellectual figures such as Irini Dentrinou, Nikos Lefteriotis, Theodoros Makris (first President), as well as Kostas Dafnis, Mari Aspioti, M. I. Desyllas, Konstantinos Grollios, Georgios Linardos and Avigail Loutzi-Nikokavoura.

Its activities include:

• lectures and educational sessions with distinguished speakers (November–May)
• organization of major conferences, including the 4th (1978) and 10th (2014) Panionian Congresses
• organization of the 1st Ionian Week (1970)
• cultural initiatives dedicated to Konstantinos Theotokis and Dionysios Solomos
• placement of commemorative plaques on historic buildings in Corfu
• educational competitions for students focused on local history

The Society is one of the most important institutions contributing to the intellectual and cultural life of Corfu.
