The Lefkimmi Music and Art Association was founded on May 21, 1910, under the name “Lefkimmi Philharmonic Brotherhood”. A few years earlier, in 1902, the Corfiot bandmaster Efstathios Bakolis had arrived in Lefkimmi, bringing the first rays of music to southern Corfu by founding the informal “Lefkimmi School of Singing”, which became the forerunner of the association.
The Association participates voluntarily in all events of the area, including social, religious, cultural and national events. More than 100 musicians make up its departments: the band, with theory, wind and percussion sections; the junior band, which includes young musicians up to the age of 15 and has already made many appearances; and the light music orchestra, formed at the end of 1993, which is a high-standard ensemble.
Since 2010, it has organized the Lefkimmi Alykes Festival, a ten-day cultural event held at Alykes Lefkimmi, which has become an important institution with strong recognition and high attendance.
