The Lakones Philharmonic Band “Agios Nikolaos” is an active cultural organization in the community of Lakones, Corfu, participating in musical events, parades and activities that promote the island’s long-standing philharmonic tradition.
The Lakones Philharmonic Union was founded in 1991 and made its first public appearance in the village of Lakones during the Pentecost procession. It gradually began participating in all the village’s religious processions and parades, as well as in events held in other parts of Corfu.
The Philharmonic Band took its name from the village church, which donated the building where it is housed and where lessons and rehearsals continue to take place. The building was renovated with the contribution of General Georgios Loukanaris, a benefactor of the Lakones Philharmonic Band.
In recent years, it has participated in events organized by the Lakones Association, including the Varkarola, and presents concerts during Christmas, Easter and the summer season.
The President is Kostas Michalas. The educational programme is supported by conductor and brass teacher Alexis Artavanis, woodwind teacher Adriano Stanisel and percussion teacher Giannis Michalas.
