The Municipal Gallery of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands and the Corfu Visual Arts Association present the group exhibition “250 Years Since the Birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias (1776–2026)”, running from 23 October to 20 November 2026.
The figure of Greece’s first Governor becomes the starting point for a contemporary visual dialogue with history. Rather than illustrating specific events from his life, the participating artists approach Ioannis Kapodistrias through different perspectives, artistic languages and sensibilities.
His face, gaze and human presence become points of departure for multiple interpretations, exploring both the public historical figure and the human dimension of his personality.
Participating artists: Dimitris Analytis, Christina Varotsi, Marili Vlachou, Andriana Gasteratou, Angelos Giourgas, Theofilos Grammenos, Erika Gypa, Magda Dimoudi, Styliani Kanta, Fotini Karlafti, Iliana Kolovou, Sofia Koursari, Aliki Eleftheria Kostelletou, Dimitris Makris, Natasa Maneta, Lakis Merianos, Kostas Minas, Haris Mitrousis, Elisavet Mouzakiti, Spyros Mouratidis, Alexandra Balla, Hara Bouka, Elena Xydea, Nina Petrovits, Rena Pilou, Rita Politsella, Aspasia Sigourakou, Eirini Skiadopoulou, Elena Soueref, Elpida Sourvinou and Katerina Hatzigeorgiou.
Founded in 1991, the Corfu Visual Arts Association marks 35 years of artistic activity in 2026.
The exhibition forms part of the events marking 250 years since the birth of Ioannis Kapodistrias. It is held under the auspices of the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands and the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, with the support of the Ionian University.
